Our New Year’s Resolutions for Healthy Hair and Skin
2018 is here and it’s the perfect time to strive towards a healthier, happier version of ourselves. And while healthy eating and exercising daily is at the top of everyone’s lists – the key to a New Year’s Resolution that will stick is setting achievable and realistic goals. Here are some super simple changes that will make a major difference to your inner health and outer beauty.
Skip the Daily Hair Washes
There are almost endless reasons to skip the daily hair washes. Washing your hair everyday strips it of the natural oils that make it look so shiny and healthy. So if you wash your hair less frequently, you’ll see your hair looking a LOT less dry, damaged and prone to split ends.
Also, if you get your hair coloured, you can avoid it fading or turning brassy by washing your hair less often. And did we mention how much easier second or third day healthy hair is to style? The beauty wins are plentiful with this simple resolution.
Embrace Bare-Faced Beauty
We all love our makeup, but to make our faces look so good, it causes some less desirable effects. Sadly, even the best makeup products contain chemicals. And having these chemicals fill our pores all day every day can cause them to get bigger – a change that can’t be reversed. Give your skin a break by laying off the makeup every few days this year, or saving the heavy coverage for special occasions.
And if going makeup-free for an entire day isn’t an option for you, try getting into the habit of taking off your makeup as soon as you get home from work. There’s nothing like having a fresh face soaking up nothing but the goodness of moisturisers and skin serums. At the very least, make sure you’re exercising and sleeping sans makeup – your skin will thank you!
Invest in Great Products
Speaking of the chemicals in beauty products, you’d be surprised by the difference in chemicals used in high-quality versus low-quality products. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for, but it’s always important to do your research into products you’ll be using regularly.
For us, buying haircare free of sulfates and parabens is a must (Nak is great for this). We also love Rodan and Fields for skincare that makes a HUGE improvement to the appearance of your skin, and It Cosmetics for skin-friendly makeup that still looks amazing.
Take a Break from the Heat Styling
This tip is especially helpful if you’re trying to grow your hair longer. Using hairdryers, straighteners and curling wands makes your hair look great for a day or two, but over time, you’ll start to see your hair looking damaged and lifeless. Swap out the heat for a texturising spray to embrace some natural, beachy waves. Or just keep your hair tied up on the days you’re avoiding heat styling. Easy!
Schedule in Your Haircuts
Another great tip for the ladies who are looking to grow their hair longer; more frequent hair cuts will help you get there. This might seem counterintuitive, but regular haircuts means less split ends, and split ends are the arch nemesis of hair growth.
Chat to your hairdresser about scheduling in a haircut every six weeks for the rest of the year, and write them into your diary all in one go. That way, you won’t have to worry about forgetting when your next trim is due. To book a haircut with the Brisbane hairdressers at TWIDALE, get in touch.
